The Ethiopian federal attorney general has charged the first two people with inciting violence at Irreecha festival, saying they caused a stamped that killed 55 people.

Former opposition spokesperson Yonatan Tesfaye sentenced over posts criticising the government's response to protests.

An Ethiopian court sentenced opposition politician Yonatan Tesfaye to six and a half years in prison on Thursday, the state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Ethiopian opposition politician Yonatan Tesfaye has been found guilty of encouraging terrorism for comments he made on Facebook. Yonatan Tesfaye now faces a sentence of up to 20 years.
